Care Tips for Your Recreational Vehicle

Getting the most out of your recreational vehicle depends a great deal on how you care for it when it's not in use. By taking a few steps and making investments of a little time and money, an RV owner can enjoy an RV that runs and looks great while also carrying a high resale value. These following care tips can make a huge difference in an RV's performance, appearance, and value:

* Invest in an RV cover – This step can do the most in terms of protecting your RV and keeping it looking like new. Buying an RV cover will provide protection against weather conditions that often do more damage to an RV than when it's in use. Intense heat and sunlight can fade colors, warp tables and shelving, and crack moldings in an RV. Without protection from an RV cover, temperatures on a hot day can be twice as much on the inside as they are on the outside. These oven-like conditions will damage and depreciate an RV over time.

* If you can't buy an RV cover for cash, consider financing – If you're completing putting your RV into storage, remember that you'll be paying out hundreds of dollars per month that you'll never get back. Over time, financing an RV cover could become very cost effective as you're actually paying for an asset that can be sold on its own or will add value to a property.

* If you're moving your recreational vehicle into your RV cover for an extended period, disconnect the batteries – Batteries will last longer if they're not subjected to the small electrical draw that occurs when they stay connected.

* Put the vehicle into your RV cover with a minimal amount of gas in the tank as possible – Over extended periods of inactivity, gasoline will thicken which makes the engine run harder. With a minimum of gas in the tank, the thickened gas can be diluted when you fill up for the first use after being in storage.

* Oil thickens as well during periods of inactivity so be sure to change it before heading out.

Taking these steps to care for and maintain your RV can optimize its performance, decrease repair costs, and preserve the value of what is probably a substantial investment.
